Re: LaCie d2 DVD±RW with LightScribe
by

I think the features of that burner may be beyond what's necessary to burn reels. For one, do reels exceed 2 hours? Most reels are quite short, it seems, so the dual-layeredness of it seems excessive if just for that purpose. Secondly, I recently purchased a Lightscribe drive myself. Bear in mind that it does require a different type of disc than you would typically use for normal DVDs. The resulting design, while decent looking, is not something I would want to give out to others as a part of a reel. It is monochromatic. I think they're working on creating the ability to have Lightscribe be printed on different colored discs but I haven't seen any mention of duo-tone burning or any such. Similarly, there seems to be some issues concerning contrast on Lightscribe that may be worrisome. Overall, if you are trying to impress others with presentation, I would stick with conventional labelling techniques (printing on an inkjet, sticking on disc).
These minor issues may or may not impact your purchase, but I wanted to share my opinion.
